What are false lashes?

Best described as a temporary cosmetic enhancement, apply-at-home false eyelashes serve as a quick and cost effective alternative to salon applied lashes. Designed to seamlessly blend with your natural eyelashes, they can be used to enhance or alter their shape, volume, length, curvature, or colour. So, whether you are looking to recreate last year’s classic wet-look lashes trend which was popularised by A-listers like Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, and Kate Bosworth, the emerging bold and dramatic trend of 2024 that’s already captivated a host of celebrities including Ariana Grande, or even the timeless cat eyelashes trend, there are plenty of options to choose from.

False lashes made from polyester, silk, hemp, minx fur, human hair, and more

Manufactured from synthetic fibres such as polyester, natural fibres including silk, and even hemp-derived plant fibres, some high-end lash products, like our mink lashes, are controversially made from real mink fur, and others from real human hair. Typically consisting of a series of individual colour-died fibres that are cut to the required size and shape, these fibres are tightly bound and held together with a super-thin, lightweight, and flexible polyester, cotton, or nylon eyelash band to create an easy-to-apply full false lash, half lash, or even a cluster. However, in the case of false eyelashes that have an invisible band, a transparent soft plastic or silicone band is used instead.

False eyelash FAQs

Is there an age limit for false lashes?

In the UK there isn’t a legally mandated minimum age to buy or use false eyelashes. Instead, the onus is on parents and guardians to consider whether it is wise or appropriate to allow their child to wear eyelashes. At Branded Makeup, our advice is only to allow children over the age of 15 to wear false lashes, due to the risk of eye infections if the lashes aren’t properly fitted, stored, and cleaned in between use.

Are fake eyelashes reusable?

Fake eyelashes are designed to be reusable, but the number of uses you can expect to get will depend on the type of lashes you have. For example, synthetic false lashes can typically be reused 1-2 times if they are pre-glued or require the application of glue, and as many as 30-60 times if they are magnetic. Meanwhile, real human hair lashes can generally be reused up to three times, mink fur up to 10 times, and silk between 28-35 times.

Can you sleep with false lashes in?

Unfortunately, false eyelashes are not designed to be worn overnight. Ignoring this advice and choosing to wear your falsies for a full night’s sleep will expose you to the risk of a buildup of dirt and bacteria along your lash line as well as the risk of them becoming tangled up in your natural lashes which may weaken them, subsequently causing them to snap or shed.
